Bill and Jan Larson are two of 80 ‘Extra Miler’ members who have successfully visited every county in America.
The Larsons began tracking their travels in 1968. In 2021, they made completing every county a priority, eventually visiting 242 counties in the Midwest over two months. By June 2026, they had just 10 counties left — nine in Alaska.
They celebrated their final county in Washington state with family gathered on a ferry.
“When we crossed the state or the county line on the ferry, we all celebrated,” Bill Larson said.
The Larsons have also visited all 63 U.S. national parks. They say even after traveling across the country, their favorite place remains close to home.
“We’ve been here 30 years. There’s no reason to move,” Jan Larson said. “The Smokies are, without a doubt, our favorite national park.”
